Undrafted point guard Troy “T-Hud” Hudson is most remembered for a brief run as a “Laker Killer” in the first round of the 2003 playoffs, a series which his team lost btw.

But “T-Hud” also has three rap albums and more than 800 tracks to his name, with names such as “I’m a Gangsta” and “Jesus is the Plug”, which were released on his own label – Nutty Boyz Entertainment.

Undrafted

Fittingly, Troy’s first full-length release was titled Undrafted.

It reflects his own draft status coming out of Southern Illinois University in 1997, so at least he was keeping it real with us.

The album features guests such as Kim Kardashian’s sex tape co-star Ray J, devil worshippers Three 6 Mafia, and hip hop heavyweights UGK, with Troy even reportedly penning most of his own lyrics. Respect!

However, this is where the props end, and reality sets in like a pistol whip to the skull because, from the tracks I’ve heard, the finished product wasn’t very good.

To put things into some perspective, the record was released in May 2007. So given the mumble and trap eras that have followed, I have definitely heard much, much worse since. But for the time period in which it was released, the album was subpar to put it nicely.

Lyrics like this didn’t help:

“Like a stripper in a shake joint I ain’t scared to move it”

Most listeners agree with this consensus, as the album sold 78 copies in its first week, making it a poverty rap instant classic.

After being waived by the Golden State Warriors in 2008, Hudson decided to focus on rap full-time when he should have done like the Showtime documentary – Shut Up and Dribble.
